WHAT IS SENSITIVE SKIN?
Hypersensitive skin is a skin condition characterized by excessive vulnerability and reactivity of the skin to external or internal stimuli with a tendency to dehydration. This reactivity may manifest itself through symptoms such as redness, itching, burning, dryness, swelling and peeling of the skin as well as coupe rose. Sensitive skin requires specific attention and care.
The “Hypersensitive Skin Triangle” is a concept that can be helpful in understanding the characteristics and reactions of hypersensitive skin. This triangle consists of: a compromised skin barrier, the highly reactive nerve fibers of the epidermis, and redness, caused by inflammation.
The outer layers of the skin (skin barrier) usually protect the body from irritants and external damage. Hypersensitive skin, in which the skin barrier is already damaged and sensory fibers are hyperreactive, will experience excessive transepidermalwater loss resulting in dry skin, irritation, and unpleasant sensations such as tingling, burning, skin tension, and redness.
